DISEC 2014

Committee on Disarmament and International Security (DISEC) is the  one of the General Assembly’s main committees. All Member States are present, each holding 1 vote. Every year the committee meets for the purpose of discussing different issues that come under its mandate. DISEC cannot pass any kind of binding resolution, impose sanctions or authorize the intervention of arms. However, the committee can send recommendations to the UN Secretariat and the UNSC.

Topic A: The business of selling of arms and weapons during national crisis and civil war

Topic B: The role of private contractors in modern conflicts

Chair

Dear Delegates,I warmly welcome you to DISEC at LVMUN 2014. Before we get to know each other personally, there are a few things you might want to know about me. I am an Arts and Sciences student at UCL, so my studies are focused on everything, in as broad a sense as is academically possible. I hope to be able to make use of this while co-chairing the committee. I have also served as President of GA and special advisor at BratMUN, my home conference, and taken part at WrocMUN.This year, which is my first at LVMUN, we have prepared two topics for you, both very much related to disarmament: the arms trade in war-stricken countries and private contractors in conflicts. I hope that you, the delegates, will be able to tackle these issues with the vim that is expected of people who have come through the rigorous selection process, each offering their own perspective to the enrichment of us all.
