United Nations Security Council (SC) is arguably the most powerful committee in the United Nations. It is composed by only 15 nations, 5 of which are called Permanent Members and have wielding veto power. SC has the authority to adopt enforceable resolutions, impose sanctions, start military interventions. The delegates in this committee will discuss topics on international security and conflicts.

Dear Delegates,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to UNSC at LVMUN 2014. I hope that you will find the weekend to be informative both in the topics that you will discuss and in the diversity of people that you meet. I am currently a Masters student in International Public Policy at University College London. Previously, I was studying P.P.E. at Oxford University while doing lots of MUN. The majority of my MUN experiences have been as a delegate or as a secretariat member, yet for the past few conferences I have switched roles again to chair. If you have any question please do not hesitate to contact me. I very much look forward to meeting you all!

Dear Delegates,My name is Līza Leimane and I will be your Assistant Chair at LVMUN 2014. Currently I am studying Sustainability and Global Justice at the Leiden University College the Hague. I have been doing MUN for about five years now - attending various different conferences (as both delegate and chair) and teaching fellow students skills that would help them excel at MUN conferences. I look forward to seeing you in Riga!"

The Study Guide is already available.
